Success as hedge trimmed from footpath but that graffiti!
Following action by Cllr Sheena Jackson, the hedge has been cut back from the footpath at the junction of Osprey Close and Acomb Wood Drive.
Sheena is also following up issues with holes which have been dug near the children’s play area on Chesney’s Field (Foxwood Lane). They are a potential hazard.
Cllr Andrew Waller has reported another instance of dumping on Bramham Road.
Meanwhile visitors accessing the City from the Selby – York cycle track get their usual colourful welcome. We’ve reported a plague of graffiti which dominates all the bridgeworks on the route.
Hob Stones planning application changes now on York Council web site
Details of the proposed changes to the Hob Stones development on Windsor Garth can now be found on the Council’s web site
The planning application can be read by clicking here
An explanation for the proposed changes from the builder can be found by clicking here
Residents have until 9th August to record any objections.
Unfortunately, the applicant appears to have attempted to drown the application in a sea of documentation much of which replicates the papers submitted 3 years ago. Hopefully the Council will reorder the papers to make it clearer just precisely what changes are being proposed.
Extra car parking space in Foxwood to be discussed tomorrow (Wednesday)
Residents living in the Foxwood area are being consulted by the Residents Association on plans to provide additional car parking spaces in the Spurr Court, Bellhouse Way & Oldman Court area.
Four options for spending the estate improvement budget this year have been worked up by Council officials (see below)
The meeting to discuss the options is taking place on Wednesday 20th July starting at 7:00pm. The meeting will take place at the Foxwood Community Centre on Bellhouse Way.
800 local residents back Front Street petition
Over 800 residents have signed a Liberal Democrat petition calling for action to fix pavements in Front Street to help those who use wheelchairs and mobility scooters get to the shops.
Westfield Lib Dem Councillor Sue Hunter launched the petition in March after concerns about uneven and damaged paths on Front Street in Acomb. Cllr Hunter says there is a patchwork of different surfaces and levels with a number of broken flagstones and kerbstones. This is causing particular issues for elderly residents and those who use wheelchairs, pushchairs and mobility scoters.
Much of the pavement is privately owned, so the campaign has been calling on local business landlords to work alongside City of York Council. The petition is part of a wider campaign by Westfield Lib Dem councillors to support Front Street and help regenerate the area. 822 residents have signed and the petition will be presented to Full Council on Thursday by Cllr Hunter.
Cllr Sue Hunter, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Westfield, commented:
“I have been overwhelmed by the reaction to this petition and would like to thank all those who have signed. The response shows how big a problem the paths are and how vital it is to get something done. The response also reveals how much residents and local businesses care about Acomb and want Front Street to thrive.
“I have spoken to a number of local people who have suffered falls because of the poor condition of the paths and struggle with wheelchairs, mobility scooters or walking frames. I hope all groups can now work together to take action.
“Improving the paths is part of a wider campaign to support Front Street and encourage residents to shop locally. The work of the traders group Acomb Alive is continuing, including organising the successful Acomb Market last month. We are aiming to create a real buzz in the area to rebuild the community life that Acomb village once had and the area could have again.”
Westfield Councillors taking action on weeds, drains and more
The Council has started its second application of weed killer. They seem to be fighting a losing battle in some areas. Many residents are now clearing areas near their homes
In the Front Street area local Councillor Sue Hunter has been helping tidy up the paved areas
Meanwhile, in Foxwood, Cllr Sheena Jackson has reported several gulleys where weeds are taking root.
Damaged and dumped recycling containers have been reported.
….and the bollard on Huntmans Walk has been damaged for the umpteenth time
Cllr Andrew Waller is following up issues with the Council’s garden care scheme. The scheme is open to elderly and disabled people who are not able to care for their gardens themselves. It is running behind schedule this year.
Andrew is also on the lookout for blocked drains. In the event of heavy rain these could be a source of flooding.
