Winners of the Foxwood garden of the year contest, organised by the Foxwood Residents Association, were located on Bellhouse Way, Linnet Way, Foxwood Lane, Linnet Way and Tedder Road.

Police appeal following recent house burglary on Foxwood Lane

The victims of a York burglary are offering a £500 reward after their house was broken into and around £10,000 worth of jewellery stolen.

North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses and information about a burglary at a property in Foxwood Lane.

Between 11.50am and 3.15pm on Tuesday 1 May 2018 Offenders have entered a property on Foxwood Lane, York after the occupants left their home for a hospital appointment.

A rear window was smashed, and numerous items of jewellery were stolen along with a safe which was forcibly removed from its wall mountings.

The offenders are believed to have left the scene, secreting stolen property within a distinctive black and white ‘zebra print’ throw that they have removed from the house.

Footpath repairs start on Foxwood Lane on 26th February

Some parking restrictions expected

The City of York Council will start work week commencing 26^th February 2018 to reconstruct the footway shown on the plan below. This scheme is programmed to take 2 weeks, weather permitting.

The work consists of excavating the current tarmac surfacing, laying two new layers of tarmac and reconstructing tactile crossing points where required. Parking will be suspended during working hours.

Good progress as hedges cut and potholes filled

The Council has finally got round to removing the self seeded bushes which blocked sight lines from the bus shelter on Askham Lane. The bushes had grown to the point where the footpath was being impeded in summer. Now the original hedge around the field should be able to reassert itself.

There are still too many blocked drainage gullies in parts of York. This mornings rain demonstrated the scale of the problem with flooding at the bottom of Hamilton Drive East a particular hazard. There were similar if less spectacular problems on Nigel Grove and Foxwood Lane. All have been reported for attention

Better beacons promised at 14 zebra crossing sites in York

The Council is to upgrade the Belisha Beacons at 14 pedestrian crossing sites in York

A report says,

“There are 43 zebra crossings across the city and outlying villages. A
zebra crossing is required by law to have a black and white striped pole
with a flashing yellow globe on each side of the crossing. If there is an
island in the middle, additional beacons may be provided as considered
appropriate. For years this equipment remained fairly standard, but in
the last decade new products have come onto the market using high
intensity light emitting diodes (LEDs) to enhance the conspicuity of
the globe.
In recent years 9 zebra crossings have been upgraded to high
conspicuity units as part of road safety schemes. Feedback on these
has been very positive. The remaining 34 crossings have equipment of
variable age and condition”.
The new design is promised to be more visible with diodes also lasting longer than older type.

The work is expected to be completed before the end of January.

Crossing sites to be upgraded

Thanet Road Toucan crossing finished but Council neglects essential work

The Toucan crossing at the junction of Kingsway West and Thanet Road has been completed and is working.

Unfortunately the Council didn’t take the opportunity – when plant was in the area – to resurface the hammerhead on Kingsway West which is very uneven and represents a hazard for cyclists.

The change coincides with the introduction of a 20 mph speed limit outside the Lidl store

Sadly the Council has also failed to upgrade the bollard on the Foxwood lane cycle path approach to the crossing. The wooden bollard has been a source of complaint for several years. It lacks effective reflectors and, during foggy weather or on dark nights in heavy rain, it becomes virtually invisible for cyclists. The expectation had been that the council would either remove the bollard altogether or at least replace it with one that could be seen at night.
