The improved weather hasn’t come quickly enough to prevent damage to several grass verges in the area.
Thoresby Road is particularly bad. There is an outstanding improvement scheme which would see more off street spaces provided in the street. Currently the Council is exploring the possibility of providing “eco grid” parking on part of the grassed area outside flats no’s 50-52 and 66-68.
NB. We understand that the Council are also still pursuing the possibility of providing “eco grid” parking outside flats in Chapelfields.
At long last, work has started on providing additional parking spaces in the Spurr Court area.
However there is still no news on the other half a dozen lay-by schemes that are outstanding in the Thoresby Road, Dijon Avenue, Windsor Garth, Askham Lane and Chapelfields areas.
The Council really should keep residents up to date with the progress being made.
The Council says, “We were unable to collect recycling from a small number of streets in the Chapelfields area because of a vehicle breakdown.
We will be returning to collect the recycling from these properties tomorrow morning. We apologise for the delay in collection and thank you for your patience
All scheduled household and green waste was collected today”.

Responding to a recent survey, local residents had said that litter and weed growth were one of their main concerns.
Good therefore to see this week that the Chapelfields estate is looking much tidier. Most gutters are weed free although the recent wet/warm weather will likely prompt further growth. Litter also seems to be under control.
We’ve reported one or two other public service issues that require attention.
We’ve commented before, that the number of high profile PCSO patrols in the area does have an effect on anti social behaviour problems.
With lighter nights, and dry weather, now with us problems are increasing.
There have been more problems recently particularly in the Foxwood area where misuse of mopeds has become endemic in at least the Bellhouse Way area.
It is a similar picture in Chapelfields, where a poll currently being undertaken by LibDem Councillors has revealed that “moped gangs” are now the most serious crime issue on the estate.
71% say they are a problem.
Its clear though that the local police force simply don’t have enough officers to be able to offer reassurance patrols as often as residents would like.
There is still time to respond to the Police and Crime Commissioners survey on neighbourhood policing. It is she who ultimately is responsible for Police budgets in York and North Yorkshire.
It is she who will have to allocate more resources to tackle neighbourhood issues.
Residents should make these points when they respond to the survey. Click here
The York Council has issued the following statement;
“It has clearly been a great week for gardening as we have struggled to keep up with all the garden waste that you put out for us. Unfortunately, we were unable to collect the garden waste from 50 – 60 and 49 – 59 Bramham Road and Marsden Avenue.
We were also unable to collect the recycling from around 35 properties on Chapelfields Road but this was because of roadworks. The properties affected are the odd numbered ones between the Bramham Road and Ridgeway junctions.
We could not get access to Walton Place to collect the green waste.
If you are affected by any of these matters, please put your recycling out by 7am tomorrow and we will endeavour to return and collect. We are very sorry for any problems that this may cause”.
