Askham Lane footpath resurfacing plan
The Council will be resurfacing part of the Askham Lane footpath starting on 10th December (see above). The work will last for 3 weeks.
It is disappointing to see that the section of path at the corner of Ridgeway and Grange Lane – which is very uneven – is excluded from the project

Delays on street lighting and other York Council repairs
It looks like there is a backlog developing on street lighting repairs in York. Cllr Sheena Jackson has been pressing for a lamp at the end of Foresters Walk to be repaired but has now been told that it could be as long as a fortnight before it is working again. Officials blame an increased number of fault reports for the backlog, although an extra member of staff has been taken on.
Elsewhere recycling collections have been erratic with several instances reported where cardboard has not been collected.
The Councils web site instructions on how much cardboard can be collected at the kerb are byzantine and really could do with simplification before the peak Christmas period arrives
We were disappointed to find that a “keep left” bollard on Gale Lane – reported 5 weeks ago – still hasn’t been repaired
We’ve asked for the repair to be expedited The darker nights, and potentially foggy weather, mean that illuminated bollards are often a key safety aid for drivers
There have also been problems in getting overgrown hedges cut back for some public footpaths.
We’ve asked for some self seeded bushes on the Thoresby Road garage area to be removed.
We reported the full litter bin on Askham Lane near the bus stop and asked it to be emptied.

Road works start on Askham Lane as weeds cut back from bus stop
Work has started on repairing Askham Lane.
The works at Askham Lane will start on Monday 20 August, between the hours of 9.15am and 5pm, and are estimated to finish on Friday 24 August.
In order to carry out these works safely, temporary road closures will need to be put in place. For the Askham Lane works this will include a temporary road closure from the junction of Askham Grove to the Ridgeway roundabout.
At times the junctions of Askham Grove and Grange Lane will also be closed.
Some disruption is expected although it is hoped to finish the work before the new school term starts.
Up to date details can be found here https://roadworks.org/
Also on Askham Lane, the Council have begun to tackle the perennial problems of weeds overgrowing the bus shelter.

Arsonist around again this year
Last year we had a potentially serious incident on Askham Lane when arsonists set fire to a wheat field.
Unfortunately the same thing seems to have happened again this year with the Fire Brigade (NYFR) were called to a similar incident on Saturday. They dealt with it promptly.
Given the extended dry spell that we have had the consequences could have been devastating.
So if anyone has any information, or spots any suspicious behaviour, then please contact the Police (999 if an incident is in progress, 101 if it is to pass on information).
Also on Askham Lane (rural section) there has been more dumping. We have reported it.
