What’s on in York: Flowetic – Contemporary dance fitness Free Taster

Melbourne Centre

Wed 8 Nov

7.45pm – 8.45pm

Free

Flowetic is a dynamic class which combines choreographed dance sequences that repeat and build, toning and strengthening exercises and stretching and relaxation elements – fitness and well being for the body and mind. Taught in an easy to follow way, no previous dance training is necessary, but youmust be in a good state of physical health. The class includes elements of contemporary dance, ballet and lyrical jazz, amongst others and you learn while you move.

This course is for adults of all ages, sizes and ability levels. If you love music and dance then this is the course for you!

What should I wear on my feet?  – Most people tend to dance in bare feet for this type of class.  By working in bare feet you should feel much more grounded and will intuitively be much more mindful of your ankles, knees and joints. If you would prefer to wear shoes, we recommend wearing ballet pumps or soft soled (ball of the foot) contemporary shoes that allow for full movement of the feet and ankles. Trainers are not suitable footwear for this class.

What to bring with you.  Bring a mat on which you can tone, stretch and relax, water, and a towel to dry off with.

What’s on in York: Patience by Gilbert & Sullivan

Patience _poster

York Theatre Royal

Wed 8 Nov, Thu 9 Nov, Fri 10 Nov, Sat 11 Nov

7.30pm – 9.45pm & 4.30pm – 7.15pm

£6 – £23

Twenty (or so) love-sick maidens, all in love with “aesthetic” poet Reginald Bunthorne; twenty (or so) officers of the Dragoon Guards, highly offended that their fiancées have all deserted them for a man who wears velveteen knickerbockers and carries a lily; Patience, the village milkmaid, a pretty but down-to-earth working girl, and Oh, no!!…not another velvet-clad poet….!

The 1870s/80s craze for all things aesthetic may long have passed, but Gilbert’s satire on affectation is still as valid and as funny as it was 136 years ago, and Sullivan’s music is at its most tuneful and witty.

Tickets range from £6 for children in the Rear and Side Gallery  to £23 for adults in the stalls or dress circle

Tickets available from York Theatre Royal Box Office (01904) 623568 or on line at www.yorktheatreroyal.co.uk.

What’s on in York: “Swim 400” family challenge at Energise pool

What is the Swim 400 metres Family Challenge?

The aim of Swim 400m Family Challenge is to get families swimming on a regular basis and thus creating a healthy routine for all the family. Children can practise what they have learnt in their swimming lessons, and the parents can try and keep up.

What do we have to do?

Download the Free Just Swim’ app created by the ASA Google Play or the Apple App Store. The app has two simple functions of goal setting and swim logging providing swimmers with the ability to track their progress on number of swims, distance covered, calories burned and time. Swim 400m is a pre-set goal within the app.

Do we have to time our 400m swim?

No, just doing a family activity of swimming 16 lengths is all that we ask. However, if you want to try and improve your timings there is a leader board on poolside, which may entice you a little. For all those that enter, there will be a Family Day Out prize available for one lucky family chosen at random from the board.

When are the sessions?

We are trying to get  to encourage families to come to either Saturday or Sunday 3.30pm-5.30pm to create a bit of Parkrun feel. Or you can come any time to complete your 16 lengths.

How much is it?

The normal pool admissions apply and the Just Swim app is free.

What if I or my child can’t swim a full length?

This challenge is about fun and inclusion, if you or child cant swim in the deep end you can swim widths of the main pool or shallow pool (32 widths).

Can I swim the Swim 400 challenge on my own?

Yes, any time or at the either of the two sessions: Saturday or Sunday 3.30pm-5.30pm
