£33+ million estimate for new York central access route

Compromise access route

The preferred option for an access bridge into the York Central site will cost between £33 & £43 million. The route will pass next the Millennium Green, but efforts are being made to minimise its impact.

The new route will effectively provide a by-pass for the Salisbury Terrace/Leeman Road housing area.

The compromise is described in a Council report published today following a period of consultation.

The report is good news for campaigners in the Holgate Road/ Wilton Rise community. They were set to be hit hardest by an access route using Chancery Rise. The Labour council bought the land that this route would have used in 2013 but offered little consultation with nearby residents. Quite how much this blunder has cost taxpayers is unclear at this stage.

So, fare around £3.7 million has been spent on planning work for York central plus site purchase of this £2.3 has come from York taxpayers. Now taxpayers are to be asked for a further £1.9 million to take the project forward.

In addition, the Council is being asked to find 3200,000 towards the costs of an expansion of the Railway Museum. The Museum hopes to invest around £50 million in their project

Following a “Master Planning” exercise for the site, a planning application is expected to be determined in Oct 2018

Acomb Green Lane trader falls foul of waste laws – fined £670

Waste carriers in York are being urged to ensure they are properly licenced to collect, carry and dispose of waste, following a prosecution today (7 November) of illegal activity.

David Grierson, aged 67 of Green Lane, York, pleaded guilty to two charges of unlicenced handling of commercial waste. York Magistrates Court gave him a 24-month conditional discharge and ordered him to pay £650.32 prosecution costs and a £20 court surcharge.

Mr Grierson who runs Green Lane Carpets, Acomb was found carrying waste from his business when he was stopped on 10 March as part of a joint operation with North Yorkshire Police and Her Majesty’s Revenues and Customs.

This routine enforcement action involved stopping and searching business vehicles to determine whether they were complying with the legal requirements relating to waste carrying and waste transfer.

Mr Grierson failed to produce a copy of authority to transport controlled waste and failed to produce waste information. He was served with two notices requesting to produce the correct licence and documents, failed to do so and was served with a fixed penalty notice that he failed to acknowledge or pay.

Lower Tier waste licences are free and are required by traders carrying their own waste. Traders carrying other peoples waste require Upper Tier licences which cost £250.

The class includes elements of contemporary dance, ballet and lyrical jazz, amongst others and you learn while you move.

This course is for adults of all ages, sizes and ability levels. If you love music and dance then this is the course for you!

What should I wear on my feet?  – Most people tend to dance in bare feet for this type of class.  By working in bare feet you should feel much more grounded and will intuitively be much more mindful of your ankles, knees and joints. If you would prefer to wear shoes, we recommend wearing ballet pumps or soft soled (ball of the foot) contemporary shoes that allow for full movement of the feet and ankles. Trainers are not suitable footwear for this class.

What to bring with you.  Bring a mat on which you can tone, stretch and relax, water, and a towel to dry off with.

What’s on in York: Patience by Gilbert & Sullivan

Patience _poster

York Theatre Royal

Wed 8 Nov, Thu 9 Nov, Fri 10 Nov, Sat 11 Nov

7.30pm – 9.45pm & 4.30pm – 7.15pm

£6 – £23

Twenty (or so) love-sick maidens, all in love with “aesthetic” poet Reginald Bunthorne; twenty (or so) officers of the Dragoon Guards, highly offended that their fiancées have all deserted them for a man who wears velveteen knickerbockers and carries a lily; Patience, the village milkmaid, a pretty but down-to-earth working girl, and Oh, no!!…not another velvet-clad poet….!

The 1870s/80s craze for all things aesthetic may long have passed, but Gilbert’s satire on affectation is still as valid and as funny as it was 136 years ago, and Sullivan’s music is at its most tuneful and witty.

Tickets range from £6 for children in the Rear and Side Gallery  to £23 for adults in the stalls or dress circle
