Former Acomb Blockbuster store on market again
A building on the corner of York Road and School Street – formerly occupied by Blockbusters but recently converted into a Post Office and General Store – is on the market again.
Offers of over £99,950 are being invited through Ernest Wilson (tel. 0113 238 2900 Ref: 556919)
The store currently only opens 46 hours a week closing at 12:30pm on Saturdays. The Post Office remuneration is claimed to be around £55,000 pa.

York Council slow to deal with safety reports
Just a few weeks after we reported that the York Council seemed to be getting on top of a backlog of complaints, further issues have arisen.
Nettles overgrowing footpaths, broken glass, full poop scoop bins, graffiti and litter in back lanes have all been reported but are still awaiting Council attention two weeks later. A confirmation of receipt of the complaints had been sent by the Council on 8th September when the issues were sent on to the responsible department for action.
The problems had been reported through “Fix my Street“. This web site allows progress to be publicly recorded. Some issues logged two weeks ago have been addressed – an abandoned bike on York Road has been removed and a clothes recycling bank emptied – but several remain outstanding.
Local Councillors have been asked to escalate the outstanding issues.

Grass cut back from Teal Drive snicket
Good to report that, following action by Cllrs Stephen Fenton and Sheena Jackson, the grass on the Teal Drive/Carrfield snicket has been cut back
In fact the whole of the Rowntrees playground, park and surrounding area has been tidied up.
Next on the list is to get the cycle barriers painted.
Earlier in the week there was a bit of a drama at the Foxwood shops when a drivers foot slipped on the accelerator sending her car into the flower tub.
Fortunately no one was hurt and damage was superficial
Survey going well despite confusion caused by local newspaper
Our survey into Westfield residents views and priorities – officially launched on Tuesday – is getting a good response.
No thanks to The Press newspaper which publicised yesterday a link to a similar survey which is apparently looking for the views of residents living in the Acomb Ward. That survey was only made available more recently. The Press confused the issue by using a photo of part of the Westfield Ward to illustrate their story, but failed to provide a link to our survey.
So Westfield residents should click this link to take part in the “on line” survey.
