Police in York are seeking the owners of recovered bicycles – likely to be from Foxwood area

North Yorkshire Police is seeking the owners of several bicycles recovered by police in West York on Sunday 1 November 2015.

On Sunday 1 November 2015 police recovered several bicycles from an address on Thoresby Road in West York. The bicycles are believed to have been stolen earlier that day, most likely in the Foxwood area of York. However, so far, only one of these bicycles has been reported stolen.

We are conducting enquiries in respect of these bicycles. In particular, we are seeking to identify their owners so that their bicycles may be returned to them.

Former York police station, occupying a prime site, is being used for storage

The Ministry of Justice has revealed that it is not planning to sell or lease the former Police station on Lower Friargate in York.

In a response to a Freedom of Information request the Ministry confirmed that the Magistrates Court had taken over the whole of the building complex after the Police moved out in April 2014.

The building is now being used for “storage”.

It is linked to the adjacent Magistrates Court building and any redevelopment would require substantial remodeling to ensure that the Court remained secure.

It had been hoped that at least part of the site might be incorporated into a comprehensive redevelopment. It would have provided an opportunity to supplement the 14 homes now scheduled to be built on the adjacent former Fire Station site.

The Ministry claims that the gloomy buildings are not “boarded up” but as the photo above shows their appearance reflects poorly on the nearby Conservation area.

The Ministry claims not to be able to separate the annual running costs of the building from those of the adjacent (Listed) Magistrates Court.

The building is managed by the Courts and Tribunals Service which, for over a decade, has fallen outside the local government influence. The service is responsible to a government Minister – currently Shailesh Vara MP.

Golf Poster Pic As a result of popular demand the City of York Council is running another indoor golf programme over the coming winter months.
The upcoming programme is down to the great uptake and success of past projects and provides individuals the opportunity to improve their swing technique without being exposed to those harsh winter elements.

The sessions are designed to provide new or old adult golfers the improvement in their game that so many golfers crave.
The sessions will have an expert tuition from a club professional to support you in developing your golf skills.

The lessons commence on Monday 16th November 7-8pm.

The programme will last for five weeks, at each session you will receive an hour expert tuition from a club professional and will be able to use equipment at no extra cost.

The programme will cost £25 for the 5 sessions; there are limited spaces so please contact us as fast as you can.
