Job seekers offered support to find work online in Acomb tomorrow (Wednesday)

This winter, Explore York Libraries and Archives, in partnership with York Learning, will be helping to give job seekers an advantage with two learning avenues.

Explore York Libraries will be hosting two series of free workshops on job hunting online which will help job seekers understand how to search, find and apply for jobs online. One series will be hour-long online-based courses, and the other will offer longer, four-week employability sessions.

The hour-long Job Hunting Online workshops address the fact that more and more vacancies being posted online. Job seekers are welcome to attend up to two of these free workshops before March 2015, when they’ll discover the best ways to use search engines and online job resources to improve their chances of securing work.

These hour-long sessions will take place at Explore Clifton Library on Mondays at 2pm – 3pm (tel: 01904 552662) and Explore Acomb Library on Wednesdays at 10am – 11am (tel: 01904 552651). The sessions are running from now until the end of March 2015. To book a place, please call one of the libraries above – early booking is encouraged.

York’s Annual Public Health Report Published

City of York Council has published the first chapter of its Director of Public Health annual report for 2015.

The council’s Director of Public Health is legally required to produce an annual report on the health of the local population. ​

This year’s report will be produced in monthly chapters that will highlight key health issues to the city’s residents.  Each chapter will provide information on how to improve your health and that of your friends and families.

Information Day for York Families

City of York Council’s Children’s Centres are inviting local families to find information and advice on training, education, jobs, childcare, finances and volunteering at a special event later this month (Wednesday 21 January).

Held at The Avenues Children’s Centre, Sixth Avenue, Tang Hall,  the Aspire event will run from 1pm-4pm and is open to all families across the city.

Improvements to A19 junction

Following a consultation, City of York Council is taking a further report to a Cabinet meeting on Tuesday 20 January to progress plans to improve one of York’s busiest road interchanges.

The proposed changes to the A19/A64 junction will form the first phase in the A19 Pinch Point Scheme, which York received approximately £2million for from the government’s Department for Transport, aimed at helping support growth and tackle congestion.
