The Friends of York Art Gallery (FOYAG) will mark their 70th anniversary with an exhibition of some favourite works this spring.

Since it was founded in 1948, the charity has pledged more than £600,000 which has aided the purchase of over 150 works for the gallery’s collections, including pieces by Albert Moore, David Hockney, Barbara Hepworth and Grayson Perry.

To celebrate their 70th year, members of the Friends have chosen some favourite works from the gallery’s collections which have been acquired or restored thanks to their financial support.

Did you know that Yorkshire Architectural & York Archaeological Society (YAYAS) is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year?

Come and join us to find out more about their key personalities and campaigns dating back to the 1840s. This exhibition in the Archives Reading Room at York Explore will include digitised images from of the Evelyn Core and Hanstock Collections in the possession of YAYAS, as well as slides from the late 19th century until the 1940s.

Plus there will be display boards, examples of the glass slides, and publications. Why not pop in – there’s lots to see!

Hosted by Carr Infants and Junior School, this is a FREE event for the people of Acomb and the surrounding areas consisting of: 2km Junior Indiviual run around the perimeter of the enclosed school fields for 4-14 year olds – we have a capacity of 100 participants for this event. A ticket will be required for each runner. All finishers of this race will receive a medal.

  • 1km Fun Run for all around the perimeter of the enclosed school fields in which parents, grandparents and any family members of all ages are encouraged to join. Parents and family members wishing to take part in the fun run for all please select a ticket per individual for this event.All finishers will receive a certificate.

The event is FREE to participate, however booking is required.

9:00am : Registration opens – sign in and collect your race day number

9:45am : Group Warm Up

10.00am : 2km Junior Individual run starts

10:30am : 1km FunRun for all starts

12noon  : Activity Village closes

There will be an Activity Village located adjacent to the finish line. This will include; Activities and Information Stalls. Complimentary bottle of water for all participants.

This event is for ages 4-14 years old and family.

Thought provoking works of art exploring the current and ongoing issues of migration, dispossession and national borders are brought together in a major new exhibition opening at York Art Gallery this May.

Eleven international artist use their work to question the meaning of nationalism, free movement, inclusion and exclusion, drawing on both the historical and contemporary narratives which shape identity and opinion.

The exhibition expresses a desire for freedom and a better life that stands in sharp contrast to the reality the migrants experience on their journeys.
