Roadworks set to cause delays over next few weeks in York

Residents and commuters are being warned that delays are to be expected when Stonebow completely closes to traffic from Monday 18 February.

There will also be full overnight closures of Pavement between 25 March and 5 April, Fossgate between 25 March and 12 April and Stonebow between 1 and 5 April (Monday to Friday 8.30pm to 5am only)

In addition, the City of York Council will be carrying out other highway improvement works across the city throughout February and March.

The roadworks will be taking place in the following locations:

    • Holly Bank Road from the junction of Hamilton Drive East, and including, the junction of Holly Bank Grove.
    • Clifton from the junction of Water Lane to the junction of St Olaves Road
    • North Moor Road in Huntington
    • Wetherby Road, Rufforth

Holly Bank: this involves reconstructing parts of the carriageway at Holly Bank Road from the junction of Hamilton Drive East up to, and including, the junction of Holly Bank Grove.

Work is scheduled to start on Monday 25 February for approximately eight weeks. Works will be carried out during the daytime between 8am and 6pm. In order to carry out the works safely, the use of a temporary road closure from the junction of Hamilton Drive East to the junction of Holly Bank Grove will be necessary. This road closure will remain in operation 24/7 until works are complete. All onsite parking will be suspended during this period.

Clifton:  works start on Monday 4 March for two weeks (weather permitting) between 7pm till 1am working Monday to Friday only. The works will include resurfacing the road and the reinstatement of all road markings. It is normal practice for resurfacing works to be carried out in the evening/night time on busy routes.

In order to carry out these works safely the use of a temporary road closure from the junction of Water Lane to the junction of St Olaves Road will be necessary whilst works are taking place.

A clearly signed diversion route will be set out for through traffic. Site staff will be on hand to advise and assist residents about the access restrictions once the works are ongoing. Your assistance will be much appreciated.

In addition to the above, kerbing and drainage works will also be taking place on 25 February for a period of a week working 9.15am to 3.45pm. These works will be carried out under local traffic management, will not affect access/egress and the road will be open as normal.

North Moor Road: the road will be resurfaced between Monday 11 March for up to two weeks, (weather permitting). The works will be carried out between 7pm till 1am working Monday to Friday only. It is normal practice for resurfacing works to be carried out in the evening/night time on busy routes.

The council will also be carrying out kerbing and drainage works on 25 February for a period of a week working 9am to 3pm. These works will be carried out under local traffic management, will not affect access, and the road will be open as normal.

Wetherby Road (Rufforth): resurfacing works will take place between Monday 18 March for up to two weeks, (weather permitting), between 8pm to 5am working Monday to Friday only.

In order to carry out these works safely the use of a temporary road closure from the junction of A1237 up to the junction of A1(M) will be necessary whilst works are taking place for through traffic. Shorter local diversions for residents of Rufforth will also be in operation. The works are not likely to cause any issues within the ring road and the Wetherby Road (Acomb/Westfield) will be unaffected.

In addition to this, the council will be carrying out kerbing and drainage works on 11 March for a period of a week working 9am to 4pm. These works will be carried out under local traffic management, will not affect access and the road will be open as normal.
