Fashion show today

Students from Dressmaking and Pattern Cutting courses run by the council’s York Learning team will take to the catwalk for the first time to model their creations on 9 June at Heworth Cricket club.

The event, which has already sold out, will be hosted by Stuart Hillard, a contestant from the popular TV programme, The Great British Sewing Bee.

The fashion show has been organised by tutor Kate Unsworth, an experienced bridal wear designer and who has been sharing her creative flair with York students for the last four years.

The show is the ‘Grande Finale’ following the end of the courses and gives about 30 learners the chance to display the wonderful work they have produced during the year.

It will start with an entertaining talk from Stuart, followed by the fashion show of various clothing garments including ladies’ tailored and informal wear and items of children’s clothing.

Norah, a student of Kate’s Tuesday morning class, said: “As always, my tutor Kate has been extremely informative, patient and knowledgeable. She’s helped me so much.”

In addition to her regular 10 week courses at Heworth Cricket club, Kate will be running a 25 week, Level 2, Garment Construction course at the venue during the autumn, as well as a number of sewing based and pattern cutting one day workshops at Huntington School.

For more information about the dressmaking courses running in September email Claire Douglas, Curriculum Manager at City of York Council at claire.douglas@york.gov.uk or call 01904 552806
