People with Covid Symptoms
• NHS Pathways/111 triages – as at 10.5.21 there had been 71 total covid triages in the CYC area in the last 7 days. The peak number of triages was 653 in the 7 day period to 20.9.20.
• As at 11.5.21, the Covid Symptom App estimates 36 per 100,000 in York with symptomatic covid (responses from a sample of 4,048 people). The peak rate was 1,283 on 7.1.21.
Diagnosed cases
• As at 13.5.21 York has had 12,334 cases since the start of the pandemic, a rate of 5,856 per 100,000 of population. The cumulative rate in York is below the national (6,898) and regional (7,230) averages. Cases identified through Lateral Flow Tests will be removed if they have a negative follow up PCR test within 72 hours so the cumulative total of cases can, on occasions, go down.
• The PHE ‘Exceedance’ rating compares the no. of new cases over a 14 day period with the previous 6 weeks and provides a RAG rating to indicate if the previously observed trend in the number of new cases is worsening. The latest rating for York (10.5.21) is Amber. In recent weeks the number of cases have been low in York which has an effect on the thresholds used to determine the RAG rating – a small change can mean the difference between a red, amber and green rating.
• The provisional rate of new Covid cases per 100,000 of population for the period 5.5.21 to 11.5.21 in York is 17.1 (36 cases). (Using data published on Gov.uk on 13.5.21).
• The latest official “validated” rate of new Covid cases per 100,000 of population for the period 2.5.21 to 8.5.21 in York was 17.6 (37 cases). The national and regional averages at this date were 22.1 and 39.8 respectively (using data published on Gov.uk on 13.5.21).
• York is currently ranked 75th out of 149 Upper Tier Local Authorities (UTLAs) in England with a rank of 1 indicating the lowest 7 day rate.
• For the 7 day period 1.5.21.to 7.5.21, 1 ward (Osbaldwick & Derwent) had seen a statistically significant fall in rates compared with the 7 day period 24.4.21 to 30.4.21. For the remaining wards there had been no significant change. The number of cases in each ward varied from 0 to 5 and rates varied from 0 to 37.6 per 100,000. 6 wards had zero cases.
• The rate of new Covid cases per 100,000 of population for the period 2.5.21 to 8.5.21 for people aged 60+ in York was 10.1 (5 cases). The national and regional averages were 6.9 and 12 respectively.
• As at 11.5.21, the latest 7 day positivity rate in York (Pillar 2 PCR tests only) was 0.85%. The national and regional averages are 1.0% and 2.0% respectively.

Contact Tracing
• Since 28.5.20 a total of 11,413 confirmed CYC Covid cases have been uploaded into the NHS Test and Trace system and 10,311 (90.3%) of the cases have been completed (compared with 86.6% nationally). 26,777 ‘contacts’ of these cases have been identified and 20,332 (75.9%) of these have been completed (compared with 81.2% nationally).
• Local Contact Tracing. Between 10.3.21 and 7.5.21, 180 referrals had been actioned by the local contact tracing service. Of the referrals actioned, 167 (92.8%) were successful and 13 (7.2%) were unable to be reached via phone or home visit, but guidance leaflets were posted where possible. (NB on the 10.3.21 the local CYC team became responsible for contacting all cases rather than just those that the national team could not contact).
Cases in Residential Care Settings
• As at 12.5.21 there were 0 care homes in the CYC area with confirmed Covid-19 infection (at least 1 case of either a staff member or resident).
• The latest ‘outbreak’ (2+ cases) in a residential care setting in York were reported by PHE on 25.2.21 (1 home).
Cases amongst School Aged Children
• In the 7 days up to 10.5.21 there were 3 children of primary or secondary school age who tested positive (across 3 different schools).

• As at 11.5.21 there were 3 confirmed Covid-19 patients in General and Acute beds. The peak number was 157 on 19.1.21.

• As at 12.5.21 a total of 107,246 CYC residents have had the first dose of the vaccine. This represents 50.9% of the estimated total population of York and 61.6% of the estimated adult (18+) population of York.
• As at 12.5.21 a total of 56,154 CYC residents have had both doses of the vaccine. This represents 26.7% of the estimated total population of York and 32.3% of the estimated adult (18+) population of York.
Deaths
The two sources about deaths from Covid-19 at LA level are ONS data and local registrar data. They are derived from the same source (civil registration data). ONS data is more comprehensive as it includes deaths of York residents which have occurred and been registered outside York. Local registrar data provides a breakdown by age and gender. The most recently available data is summarised below:
• ONS Weekly data: In the most recent period (Week 17: 24.4.21 to 30.4.21) 1 Covid-19 death was recorded as having occurred for CYC residents. In weeks 14, 15 and 16 there had been 0, 2 and 0 deaths respectively.
• ONS Cumulative data: Since the start of the pandemic, for deaths occurring up to 30th April 2021 and registered up to 8th May 2021, 396 Covid-19 deaths were recorded as having occurred for CYC residents (228 in hospital, 135 in care homes, 25 at home/elsewhere and 8 in a hospice). The number of deaths per 100,000 of population in York is 188.02 which is lower than the national average of 231.62.
• Age / Gender breakdown (using registrar data): The average age of the CYC residents who died was 82.1, with an age range of 44-104. The age profile of the CYC residents who have died is older than the national average (79.5% were aged 75+ compared with 73% nationally). 47.9% of the CYC residents who died were male. The national average is 54.4%.

Demonstrating your COVID-19 vaccination status allows you to show others that you’ve had a full course of the COVID-19 vaccine when travelling abroad to some countries or territories. A full course is currently 2 doses of any approved vaccine.
COVID-19 vaccination status is available to people who live in England.

You can access your COVID-19 vaccination status through the free NHS App from 17 May. You can access the app through mobile devices such as a smartphone or tablet. Proof of your COVID-19 vaccination status will be shown within the NHS App. We recommend that you register with the app before booking international travel.
By calling 119
If you do not have access to a smartphone and know that the country you are travelling to requires COVID-19 vaccination status, you can call the NHS helpline on 119 (from 17 May) and ask for a letter to be posted to you. This must be at least 5 working days after you’ve completed your course of the vaccine. We expect the letter to take up to 5 working days to reach you.
The letter will be sent automatically to the address registered with your GP. The 119 call handler you speak to will not be able to see your address to check this with you. If you’ve recently moved house, make sure you’ve given your new address to your GP practice before calling 119.
Do not contact your GP surgery about your COVID-19 vaccination status. GPs cannot provide letters showing your COVID-19 vaccination status.
Residents and Key Workers will be able to visit the Mansion House for free when it reopens on Wednesday 19th May. The Council says that it is a way of giving something back to York residents and Key Workers as the City reopens following the covid-19 pandemic. The offer will be until 31st May 2021.
We think that the York Council should go further in recognising the work put in over the last year by key workers in general and NHS staff in particular. There are several honours which lie within the City’s gift and favour. We hope that the Council will exercise the option to grant an award.
Deaths
There have been no further hospital deaths announced today. It is now 3 weeks since the last fatality occurred at the York Hospital Trust.
The total death toll among York residents during the pandemic has risen by one. The latest ONS figures up to 30th April reveal that one home fatality was reported during the latest week.

Under the latest easing of lockdown restrictions from next Monday:
• People in England will be able to meet outdoors in groups of up to 30 people; and meet indoors in groups of up to six people, or as two households. Children of any age, including babies, will count towards the limit of six people indoors
• People will have the choice whether to socially distance with close family and friends they are meeting up with. But they are urged to remain cautious about the risks of hugging
• Secondary schools and colleges will no longer require pupils to wear masks in classrooms or communal areas
• All university students will be able to return to in-person teaching
• Pubs, bars and restaurants will be able to serve people indoors, while cinemas, museums and indoor children’s play areas will reopen
• Theatres, concert venues, conference centres and sports stadiums can reopen, albeit with limits on the size of audiences and crowds
• Adult sports can resume indoors and saunas and steam rooms can reopen
• People will be allowed to stay overnight somewhere else in the UK in groups of up to six people, or two households
• People will be able to travel abroad to those countries on the “green list”
• Weddings, receptions and other life events will be allowed to take place with up to 30 people
• The cap on the number of people allowed to attend funerals will be lifted, in line with how many people can be safely accommodated in venues
• Care home residents will be able to have up to five named visitors and allowed greater freedoms to make visits out of their homes
Despite the further easing of restrictions on the number of guests allowed at weddings, Downing Street said people in England will not be allowed to dance at weddings.

We are currently seeing a fairly stable picture with around 5 new cases being identified, on average, each day.
