The York Council is distributing a leaflet to each household explaining how they plan to schedule waste collections over the Christmas period.

Last year the service deteriorated into chaos during the same period.
This year some recycling collections are being cancelled. There will be no collections on New Years Day but there will be a “catch up” on the following Saturday.
The Council have issued the following advice.
The Council web site made a mistake on Tuesday in identifying the locations of bins that hadn’t been emptied.
Grey bins in various pa
rts of the Westfield and Acomb wards weren’t collected. However the Council said these were in “Copmanthorpe”.
Really is time that they sorted this out.
Tuesday 8th October the following areas did not have their waste collected as scheduled:

The Council is reporting that,

Milford Mews
Please present your bin again by 7am on Friday 4th October and we will return to collect your waste.
For the first time since new collection rounds were introduced 3 weeks ago, the York Council is reporting that all bins have been emptied on schedule today.
Today (Monday) the Council is reporting that both grey and green bins haven’t been emptied in parts of York.
Some of the roads listed on the Councils web site as “Micklegate Ward ” are actually in the Dringhouses Ward.
The web site is also a little vague about when the grey bins will actually be collected, although it seems that the green bins in Bishopthorpe will be emptied tomorrow (Tuesday)

Council staff are reporting that casual workers – some apparently on the notorious zero hours contracts – have been brought in to reduce the backlog in waste bin emptying.
Precisely what such an action will have on the Councils hopes for expenditure reductions in this activity area remains to be seen.
