With the Tour de France coming to York on 6 July, City of York Council in partnership with British Cycling and Sky is inviting residents who have been inspired by the great race to sign up to a series of free guided bike rides around the city.

The Council says, “Ahead of Stage 2 of the 2014 Tour de France starting in York Sky Ride Local offers people the chance to join organised, guided rides of varying distances and difficulties. These range from easy-going spins around picturesque parts of York through to ‘steady’ and ‘challenging’ rides, for those seeking a little more adventure.”

Mansion House opens its doors for consultation

City of York Council will hold a consultation weekend on Saturday 7 and Sunday 8 June in the historic Mansion House offering visitors the chance to have their say on the proposed Mansion House restoration project.

The weekend will unveil details of the ‘Opening Doors’ project which is designed to develop a unique and dynamic visitor experience. This project looks to improve the display of the gold and silver collection, reduce the carbon footprint of the building and restore the 18th century kitchens.

This event will provide residents and visitors with an opportunity to contribute to the developing proposals and the architects, will be on hand to discuss the proposed designs.

Businesses challenge each other in ‘The York Cycle Challenge’

Workplaces in York are being invited to take part in a free competition to encourage even more people to ride bikes as part of the 2014 York Cycle Challenge.

Kings Square knees up Saturday June 14th

Retailers, businesses and street performers are staging a one-day festival on King’s Square to celebrate and welcome residents and visitors to enjoy the new-look public area.

One of York’s most popular squares, King’s Square is the first scheme to be transformed through the Reinvigorate York initiative.

During the one-day festival retailers will be offering a special store discount, free samples and other treats.

Entertainers and street performers from far-and-wide including international stunt acts, escape artists and knife jugglers will also be joining regular performers to mark the occasion.
