Apr 6_Fairfax 's Cellar ImagePortugal is England’s oldest ally; this relationship going back as far as the fourteenth century.
Fairfax House’s extensive cellar records are evidence that in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries wine benefitted from this alliance, seeing copious quantities of Portuguese wine being consumed.
Into the twentieth century Port continued to be a particular favourite until its increasing unfashionability saw it fall from favour. However, more recently there has been a resurgence and growing interest in Portuguese ‘table wines’.

In this session of Exploring Lord Fairfax’s Cellar, wine educator and sommelier Richard Goodacre will look at the history of Portuguese-British wine trading, illustrating his talk with a tasting of six Portuguese table wines that reflect what is currently available these days.
