Ben Kane will talk about the dramatic events of AD 9, his research into the period, and about the battlefield that just might be the site of three Roman legions’ destruction in Germany.
In AD 9, German tribesmen annihilated three Roman legions in an ambush, killing their general and taking the legions’ iconic eagle standards.
In the years following, the empire waged a bloody war in Germany, seeking revenge, recovery of the eagles and the death of Arminius, the mastermind of the fateful attack. Ben Kane will talk about these dramatic events, his research into the period, and about the battlefield that just might be the site of the legions’ destruction.
