St Stephens Square parking area

Proposed location for new St Stephens Square parking area

Nearly a year after it was first proposed, a planning application for the provision of a parking area at the St Stephen’s Road/St Stephen’s Square junction has been submitted.
The parking area would be used by the residents living at the nearby flats.
This is the second attempt to get planning permission with the previous attempt having been withdrawn because the suggested surface was not permeable.
Let’s hope the new application, which is due to be determined by 21st December, will get the nod.

Touch and go on Our Lady’s replacement completion date

Our Lady's school replacement on Hamilton Drive

The new Our Lady’s Queen of Martyrs School on Hamilton Drive is rapidly taking shape. The £5.5 million investment replaces the old school on Windsor Garth. Originally scheduled for completion this month, a January opening date now seems likely.
Thoughts are now turning to the future of the redundant Windsor Garth site. The Councils local development plan assumes that the site will be developed for housing. However, in the current economic climate, an early start seems unlikely. Efforts need to be made to avoid the problems with vandalism which dogged the former Lowfields school site when it was vacated last year.
