56% reduction in highways maintenance hits Acomb hardest

Not a single road or footpath will be resurfaced in Acomb over the next 12 months. The neighbouring Westfield Ward fares little better with only 2 streets excepting attention. It has been confirmed that part of the Askham Lane carriageway will be resurfaced as will a section of footpath on Acomb Wood Drive.

Professional inspections late last year revealed that there are 69 road and footpaths in the Acomb area which are classified as being in poor condition.

There seems to be little prospect of these receiving attention before 2015 as Labour have decided to concentrate available resources into the City Centre.

Ironically it is one of the newly elected Coucnillors for the Westfield Ward who is now presiding over the dismantling of public service standards in the area.
