Park & Ride services will be operating later than usual every Thursday evening until 17 December inclusive, with last buses leaving the city centre at around 9.30pm.
Additional late buses will also be running to and from the Designer Outlet with the last pick up from the city centre at 9.30pm on weekdays and 8.19pm on Saturdays until 23 December.
Shoppers looking to take advantage of the Boxing Day sales will be able to make use of three of the city’s Park & Ride services for free. Services from Askham Bar, Designer Outlet and Monks Cross will be free of charge on Saturday 26 December and will run from 7am with the last city centre pick up at approximately 6.40pm.

Officers are attending a building site in Clifford Street, York, today (Tuesday 27 October) to security mark and log all equipment there, ensuring would-be thieves would find it impossible to sell on.
The site was recently targeted by burglars, and police are now inviting other building firms in York to get their equipment marked too.
Property on the site will be security marked using dot peen marking, in conjunction with the Hermes recording system to log it on Immobilise, the UK national property register database.
Unfortunately the Clifford Street site was targeted overnight on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 October. Despite being left locked and secure, offenders broke into the building site and removed copper pipe and a large amount of equipment, worth around £6,000. The investigation into the burglary is ongoing, and anyone with any information is asked to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 12150177505. You can also pass information to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Property marking sessions at other sites are also taking place, and officers are now inviting firms in York to get in touch so their equipment can also be security marked and registered.

The latest edition of the Young People’s Survival Guide to York has just been published ready for the academic year ahead.
This pocket-sized guide – also available online at http://www.yorksurvivalguide.co.uk/ – lists places to go to and people to contact for help and advice, and is aimed at people aged 16-25 in York although it could help anyone.
It’s got clear and up-to-date facts and hints from how old a babysitter should be to where to go if you are have to leave home. Who to talk to about feeling anxious? How to claim Universal Credit? Where to look for volunteering opportunities? How to open a bank account? Find out about local courses or the minimum wage – the Young People’s Survival Guide to York has it covered.
Split into different sections covering rights, health – including mental health – relationships, parenting, housing, money, learning and working and so on, it has a directory at the back of local and national agencies.
The guide is published by a local charity, York Action on Young Homeless, and produced in partnership with Castlegate, part of City of York Council’s support and advice services for young people.

Although North Yorkshire Police commented on the latest crime figures published by ONS, they didn’t’ respond to the public perception figures published at the same time.
69.8% of residents said that they thought that North Yorkshire Police were doing an excellent or good job. This compared to an average for England and Wales of 61.9%. North Yorkshire didn’t achieve the highest rating though with forces like Dorset, Thames Valley, Surrey, Hertfordshire and Norfolk rated more highly.
Asked whether North Yorkshire Police dealt with local concerns, 64.9% of residents agreed. The national average was 61.5%. Eight other forces were rated more highly than North Yorkshire.

Police in the north of York have launched a new high-visibility operation to protect property and deter burglars.
As part of Operation Joypad, officers from the York North Safer Neighbourhood Team are carrying out high-visibility patrols and physically checking properties to ensure they are secure. The operation is also strongly supported by Special Constables, volunteer police officers with full police powers who give up their own time to protect their communities.
North Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses and information following a rape that occurred two weeks ago today near York.
The incident occurred in a layby on the A1079 near Dunnington, on the night of Wednesday 1 July.
The victim, a woman in her forties, was attacked in her car whilst sleeping, by a man who is believed to be a lorry driver. The man is described as white, aged about 55 years old, 5ft 10ins tall, of proportionate build and with blond or light hair. He is described as having a tattoo on his upper left arm, possibly an anchor. The vehicle he was believed to have been driving is described as a large lorry similar to an HGV, cream or white in colour, with red lettering on the side including the letters ‘D’, ‘E’.
North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses and information about a cycle theft that occurred in York city centre.
It happened outside of Sainsburys, Piccadilly, York, at 3.15pm on 3 April 2015 and involved a man wearing a grey hooded top and jeans. A black coloured Specialized Jinx ladies bicycle was stolen which had lime green detailing.

North Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses and information about a minor collision that occurred on The Mount in York.
It happened at approximately 5.20pm on 29 May 2015, and involved a cyclist and a dark-coloured soft top type vehicle.
The cyclist received minor injuries after the vehicle collided with her whilst she was waiting to turn right at the junction.
Unfortunately the driver of the vehicle failed to stop.
North Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses after the First York #1 bus service from New Earswick to Wigginton was attacked by two youths. Damage was subsequently caused to a window of the bus and a replacement service had to be called.
The incident occurred when the bus was parked on Haxby Road, York, near the Lime Tree Avenue junction on Sunday 31st May 2015 at 2230 hours.

North Yorkshire Police are appealing for witnesses and information about a minor collision that occurred on Cornlands Road in York.
It happened around 1pm on 13/06/15 and involved a black, sporty-looking Citroen Saxo, the driver of which is yet to be identified. The vehicle collided with a six-year-old boy on Cornlands Road in York, knocking him off his bike.
The boy sustained minor injuries in the collision. Although the driver stopped at the scene of the collision and spoke to the boy’s father, they did not leave any contact information.
City of York Council is inviting residents to a moment of celebration when a beacon will be lit at 9.32pm at Triangular Gardens, Leeman Road (between Memorial Gardens and the Royal York). Beacons will be lit throughout the United Kingdom, Channel Islands and the Isle of Man, following the lighting of the Principal Beacon outside Windsor Castle by Her Majesty The Queen.
In addition the council is encouraging residents and businesses across the city to hold a two minute silence at 3pm, marking the moment Winston Churchill broadcast his historic speech formally announcing the end of the war.
VE Day marks the official end of hostilities in Europe for the Second World War on 8 May 1945, following the formal, unconditional surrender of German Forces. It was an occasion of national celebration, yet also one of sombre reflection for those who would not return.
This anniversary will celebrate the achievements of the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and the allies in their victory overseas and on the Home Front, but will also pay tribute to the 580,406 UK and Commonwealth Forces and 67,073 UK civilians who lost their lives during six years of conflict.
The Rt Hon The Lord Mayor of York, Cllr Ian Gillies said: “This promises to be a special event and it is important that we as a city mark this important day in the country’s history. As well as marking this milestone the event will also look to remember those who sacrificed so much to protect our freedom.”

It was on this day, 70 years ago, that peace brought an end to nearly six years of war across Europe. A sparkling evening in York is promised for Thursday 20 November, when the Christmas lights will be switched on by the Lord Mayor and younger members of his family, as well as favourite characters from this year’s pantomime at York Theatre Royal. The event will be compered by Adam Tomlinson and Anna Wallace, presenters at BBC Radio York.
The Lord Mayor will be joined in St Helen’s Square by his four grandchildren who will together perform the countdown to illuminating the St Leonard’s Hospice Light up a Life Christmas Tree and Christmas lights around the square. Panto favourites funny-man Martin Barrass and much-loved baddie David Leonard will also be on hand to add to the fun and bring a little of York Theatre Royal’s Mother Goose style to the evening.
Frank Woods, Chair of the York Retail Forum said: “Here we are again, on the verge of Christmas, and approaching the start of the festive period with an official switch on of the lights at St Helens Square. This is a fabulous time of year, hard work in the retail sector, but very rewarding as we all see our clients leaving the shops happy with the purchases, ready for placing under the tree. It is, of course, also a vital time for retailers, which can make a trading year really successful. The lights switch on, and St Nicholas Fair/festival is the perfect way to kick-star Christmas, especially as, this year, the St Nicholas Fair is to be extended over a month.”

Residents and visitors can also see the new Christmas lights at the Coppergate Shopping Centre which promise to thrill and delight whilst also raising money for York based charity, Jessie’s Fund. A magical, musical Christmas tree comes alive each hour and, on receipt of a donation, will play music and change colours. On Sunday 30 November from 3pm shoppers and families who have benefitted from Jessie’s Fund together with local retailers will be celebrating Christmas with singing around the tree.
Meanwhile, Gillygate is organising more Christmas celebrations when the street is transformed into ‘Jollygate’ between 5pm and 8pm on Thursday 11 December. The Gillygate Traders association, in partnership with Access to Music, will be presenting an extravaganza of sound and shopping as shops come alive with the beautiful sounds and talent from Access to Music students past and present. Shops will host their own bespoke gigs and the musical mayhem culminates in a headline act at The Gillygate pub after-party from 8pm onwards. Everyone’s welcome!
Former Council Leader and long term Westfield Ward representative, Andrew Waller is the Liberal Democrat choice to contest the Westfield ward by election on Thursday 16th October.
A vacancy was caused by the recent death of Cllr Lynn Jeffries.
The impact of the election is likely to be felt far beyond the boundaries of the Westfield ward with the Council currently tied.
23 Labour Councillors face 23 opposition party representatives since another Councillor quit the Labour Group last week.
Who ever wins the by election will influence whether Labour regain an overall majority or whether opposition groups – when they vote together – will be able to defeat them.
There has been some speculation that a LibDem win would mean the Councils Cabinet being restructured to ensure that all parties have a seat round the table.
In 2011 Andrew Waller came within 140 votes of retaining the seat which had previously been held by the Liberal Democrats.
Andrew, 45, was councillor for the ward until May 2011. Since then he has kept in touch with people issuing a regular FOCUS newsletter. He has kept working for the local community and recently completed a 6000 household doorstep public opinion survey.
Andrew lives in the heart of the ward on Askham Lane, and is Treasurer of Chapelfields Community Association (which runs Sanderson House Community Centre), and a School Governor at both the Westfield Primary and York High Schools.
He has worked for Rowntrees and Great North Eastern Railway in the past.
He jointly set up the Acomb Traders Association (Acomb Alive!) which promotes business in the Front Street shopping area.
He has campaigned on local services, including protecting community centres, and Energise Sports Centre.
A keen cyclist, he is often spotted in his distinctive yellow jacket around the ward recording problems that need sorting out.

In the main, the new homes will have two bedrooms though, so offer little relief for the majority of people on the York Housing waiting list who are looking for one bedroomed properties.
Council and housing association tenants in York who are considering moving to a more manageable and affordable home, are invited to find out more about a new scheme for 23 affordable homes in the city.
Broadacres Housing Association in association with City of York Council, is holding a public information event at Clifton Green Primary School on Wednesday 12 March from 4.30-7pm.
The event will feature a new scheme to be built on the site of the former YWCA hostel in Water Lane. There, Broadacres is building 16, two-bedroom apartments for affordable rent. Priority will be given to people aged 55 and over who would benefit from moving to a smaller property.
