UPDATE – Apparently the Council are to close Wheldrake Lane in an attempt to reduce delays on the A19 this evening
Drivers are complaining about huge delays for peak hours traffic as a result of the Councils road works at Crockey Hill
Some residents are asking for the traffic light controlled restrictions to be lifted at peak times as alternative routes are also congested.

Crockey Hill congestion
The Council will be starting the second phase of work to improve the flow of traffic on the A19 south of York with works at the Crockey Hill junction with Wheldrake Lane starting on Sunday 14 January.
The work is expected to be completed by Friday 4 May. No work will take place over the Easter weekend, and the road will be operate as normal from 30 March to 3 April in a bid to minimise disruption to road users.
An extra southbound lane will be built on the approach to, and through the junction in a bid to ease rush-hour congestion heading south out of York, particularly at the A64 Fulford Interchange. The traffic lights in the area will also be improved.

City of York Council is carrying out essential repair works to Parliament Street this Sunday (12 November) ahead of the busy festive season.
All shops and businesses will be open as usual while the work takes place from Pavement down to Shambles Market.
The council is acting to remove the growing risk of slips and trips by temporarily replacing 300 square metres of flagstones with tarmac, before relaying the flagstones early next year.
Laying the temporary tarmac surface now, and delaying the more disruptive and lengthier flag relaying work, means the area can be safe and welcoming to the large number of city-centre visitors over the festive season
City of York Council will be resurfacing the junction of St Leonard’s Place, Bootham and Gillygate on 25 and 26 September.
To minimise disruption work will take place from 7pm-5am and is expected to take two nights to complete.
To carry out the work safely, a temporary full road closure will be in place between 7pm and 5am on Monday and Tuesday. Work to part of the bus lay-by adjacent to Exhibition Square will also take place at the same time and will be closed throughout Tuesday and Wednesday.
During the closure period, residents and visitors will have pedestrian access to properties and local attractions. Traffic management officers will be on site to escort pedestrians where required.
Residents in the works area will have pedestrian access to their properties. Vehicle access cannot be guaranteed during the hours of working. Car park entrances within the work area will be affected and may not be accessible at all times during the works. Access to Marygate and Union Terrace car parks will still be available from Bootham and Clarence Street respectively.
Emergency services will be permitted through the works in emergency situations and pedestrian access will be available at all times. Cyclists will be required to dismount and use the footways when travelling through the affected areas.
As with any construction work, there is likely to be a certain amount of disruption. Residents in the affected area have been contacted directly and assured that everything reasonably possible will be done to keep this to a minimum. However, motorists should expect some delays and plan their journey accordingly.
The contractor carrying out the work will be Tarmac,who will be responsible for site safety and providing pedestrian access at all times.
Work is due to start today on resurfacing the carriageway in Severus Street.
Temporary parking restrictions will apply for a couple of days
Work is expected to be completed by Wednesday 23 August.
Work will take place from 9.30am – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday. To allow work to take place safely temporary signals will be in operation during the works which may lead to some delays for motorists.
The work will include a full overhaul of the traffic signal equipment, including changes to the pedestrian crossing equipment to facilitate puffin style near side red and green man displays. The existing pedestrian crossing will also be widened are realigned following feedback.

City of York Council will be resurfacing several roads across York throughout July and August to ensure they are properly maintained and up to standard.

There will be no on-street parking during these times. Residents who require vehicle access are asked to inform operatives on site to ensure safety, access will only be allowed if it is safe to do so. Pedestrian access will be available at all times.
As with any construction work, there is likely to be a certain amount of disruption. Residents are assured that everything reasonably possible will be done to keep this to a minimum, however motorists should expect some delays and plan their journey accordingly.
The contractor carrying out the work is Cemex who will be responsible for safety.
From Monday 5 June, City of York Council will start a new highways scheme which will see a number of improvements made to Clarence Street – located off Gillygate and Lord Mayor’s Walk.
The work is estimated to take around five weeks to complete and will include resurfacing areas of the road and footpaths and installing new traffic lights at the Clarence Street/Lord Mayor’s Walk junction.
New pedestrian crossings will also be installed and improvements will be made to footpaths and drainage too. Clarence Street will be resurfaced as will the area of the Clarence Street/ Lord Mayor’s Walk junction and sections of Gillygate and Claremont Terrace. (more…)
