A cyclist was knocked off their bike on Gale Lane this morning.

North Yorkshire Police said a silver Volkswagen Golf collided with the cyclist at 7.45am today

A spokeswoman said the cyclist was knocked from his bike, but the driver of the car failed to stop at the scene.

The spokeswoman said the cyclist was uninjured in the incident, but his bike was badly damaged, and urged anyone who saw the collision or has information in connection with it to contact police on 101 quoting reference NYP-12102015-0072.

Witness appeal after serious collision on Skeldergate Bridge, York

Police are appealing for witnesses after a serious collision on Skeldergate Bridge in York.

Collision

The collision occurred at about 12.25am in the early hours of Sunday 11 October, when a black Toyota Auris, believed to be heading from Tower Street towards Skeldergate Bridge, collided with a female pedestrian on the bridge.

The pedestrian received serious injuries, and remains in a stable condition in hospital. The driver of the car was uninjured.

Appeal for witnesses to serious collision on Jewbury, near Monkbar in York

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed a serious collision involving multiple vehicles on St Maurice’s Road, Jewbury near the Monkbar Hotel in York to contact them.

North Yorkshire Police

The collision occurred at around 9.15pm on Thursday 1 October and involved a blue Toyota MR2, a white Toyota Hiace campervan and a blue Taishan moped.

Police and Ambulance were both in attendance.

The rider of the moped, a 49 year-old woman from York sustained serious injuries and was taken to Leeds General Infirmary, where she remains in a serious condition. No further injuries were reported.

The driver of the MR2, a 27-year-old man from York was arrested at the scene. He has been released on bail, pending further enquiries.

A report to a Council meeting next week, from the Safer York Partnership, confirms that there have been 24 deaths by drowning in York’s’ rivers over the last 15 years.

There were more deaths in the river Foss (14) than the river Ouse (10)

Of 6 deaths in the Ouse in the City centre area,  4 have been treated as accidental.

The report comes at a time when many young people are risking their lives by jumping off City centre bridges (see above).

The report says,

“Between 1999 and April 2014 there have been 24 deaths connected to rivers within the York district. Of the 24 deaths that have occurred 10 of them went into the River Ouse in York and 14 of them went into the River Foss in York.

Of these 10 deaths connected to the River Ouse, 4 of them did not enter the river in the City Centre and 6 of them did enter the river in the City Centre.

Of these 6 deaths that were within the city centre connected to the River Ouse; 2 are believed to have entered the river accidentally; 2 are believed to have committed suicide and 2 climbed barriers to jump in and drowned accidentally.

Between May 2013 and April 2014 there were approximately 35 other reported incidents to North Yorkshire Police that were connected to the river that involved some from of possible harm.

This figure is likely to be an underestimate due to difficulties in data retrieval and classification. The following are known about these incidents;

  • 4 incidents involving falls in to the river;
    • 20 incidents involving swimming in the river;
    • 11 incidents involving threatening to jump in the river;
    • Approx 1/3rd of incidents involved people under the age of 18;
    • There is no significant pattern by hour of the day;
    • Incidents are reported all year round but peak in July / August;
    • Reported incidents are mainly on the Ouse river;
    • Reported incidentsareatmanydifferent locationsontheriver,withkey locations being Lendal Bridge and Scarborough Bridge”.

    Moped rider injured in York collision

    Police are appealing for witnesses after a moped rider was injured in a road traffic collision in York.

    Collision

    The rider, an 18-year-old local man, suffered broken ribs and leg injuries, when his yellow Aprilla moped collided with two vans on James Street at around 12.45pm on Wednesday 28 May 2014.

    The drivers of the vans initially stopped at the scene of the collision but left without providing any details.

    A number of other people stopped to help the injured man and officers are appealing for them to come forward and help the investigation.

    Appeal to trace silver 4 x 4 following Carr Lane Acomb collision

     

    York police are appealing for the occupants of a silver 4 x 4 vehicle to contact them following a collision in Carr Lane, Acomb.

     They are also appealing for witnesses to the collision and to anyone who knows of such vehicle which has recently sustained damage.

    The collision occurred at around 1.30pm today (Friday 23 May 2014) when the silver vehicle collided with two parked cars, a silver Citroen and a grey Ford Mondeo, causing damage to both.

    Serious accident on Chaloners Road – witness appeal

    <h4>Boy seriously injured in York collision – appeal for witnesses and information</h4> North Yorkshire Police is investigating a serious road traffic collision involving a 12-year-old boy and a car.

    It happened on Chaloners Road, near the bus stop opposite Sandcroft Road, at about 1pm on Saturday (16 November 2013).

    The boy, from York, had just got off a bus and was crossing the road when the collision occurred with a blue Mini Cooper driven by a 24-year-old local woman.

    He was taken by ambulance to York District Hospital with serious head injuries.

    Witnesses to the incident, or anyone who recalls seeing either the boy or the blue Mini Cooper prior to the collision, are urged to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, select option 2, and ask for Roger Walker.
