Latest mobile speed camera locations

The latest list of roads likely to be checked by the mobile speed camera van over the next week has been published here.
www.northyorkshire.police.uk/11632

The Police seem to be returning to the same roads each week.

There are others where speeding is an issue and which could usefully be monitored (Wetherby Road, Acomb Wood Drive, Moor Lane etc). The York Council could usefully review the data that it holds for roads with a poor accident record – or evidence of persistent high speeds – and work with the Police to refocus resources.

Meanwhile the latest enforcement results reveal that last week the largest number of offenders were caught on Murton Way (19) followed by York Road Haxby (18), and Tadcaster Road (10).

26 offenders were caught on the A1237 during four separate visits by the camera van.

The Police offer the following advice

Securing your home

If you want to be certain your home is as safe as you can make it, here are ten top tips you should follow:

Fit strong locks to external doors and windows, and make sure they are locked at all times.

Always remove all keys from inside locks, and keep them out of sight and in a safe place.

Fit sturdy deadlocks (British Standard BS3621) to all doors. Euro cylinder locks should bear the new standard TS007.

Make sure your doors and frames are strong and in good condition – wood doors should be at least 44mm thick.

Mark your property – having it marked helps police verify it’s been stolen.

Fit a door chain or bar and door viewer (spy-hole), and use them.

Never leave a spare key in a convenient hiding place such as under the doormat, in a flowerpot or behind a loose brick – thieves know to look there first.

When you are out in the evening, leave your lights on and shut the curtains.

Install outside security lighting; if other people can see your property a burglar may think twice.

Keep your tools and ladders securely locked up – a burglar could use them to get into your house.

New powers to prevent anti-social behaviour in York

North Yorkshire Police have been given officers and PCSOs new powers to tackle anti-social behaviour in the Stonebow, Colliergate and St Saviourgate areas of the city.

There has been no public consultation by the York Council on the proposal which potentially represents a significant extension to police powers.

A dispersal order comes into action today – Friday 28 June – and will run until 27 December 2013.

It is enforceable between the hours of 9pm and 6am and gives the police powers to disperse groups of two or more people whose behaviour is intimidating or causing harassment, alarm or distress to members of the public.

To remain in or return to this area having been told to leave by the police, may be an offence under Section 30(4) of the Anti-Social Behaviour Act 2003.

Breaching the order is punishable by up to three months’ imprisonment or a fine of up to £5,000, or both.
