Sue and Shirley receive the award at today’s ceremony

The Foxwood Residents Association is celebrating today after being awarded a gold certificate by Britain in Bloom judges.

Over the last year residents have transformed the area around the community centre and park on Bellhouse Way. Recently they started to plant a bluebell wood in the area.

Today, at an awards ceremony held at York Racecourse, their work was recognised when they received the highest gold award in the open space category.

The gold award is the highest level ever achieved by the Foxwood group.  The certificates where received, on behalf of the  Residents Association, by chair Shirley Gumley and Secretary Sue Galloway.

The main change sees the University of York campus at Heslington move from the York Outer to the York Central constituency.

York Central will have an electorate of 76,146 and York Outer 71,218

The Boundary Commission says, “The proposed constituencies of York Central and York Outer are largely unchanged apart from some small modifications to the local government boundaries in the City of York (in the wards of Hull Road, Heworth Without, Fulford & Heslington, and Rawcliffe & Clifton Without)”.

The changes reflect the new ward boundaries adopted for the Council elections in 2015.

Elsewhere in North Yorkshire and the region there are much more significant changes with Yorkshire losing 4 MPs in total.

The Boundary Commission is consulting on their initial proposals for a 12-week period, from 13 September 2016 to 5 December 2016. Their website at www.bce2018.org.uk has more information about how to respond as well as details of where and when they will be holding public hearings in your area.
